Taking the Leap

I'm not going to lie, I never thought living on the road would be something I would ever actually do. Sure, I had thought about it. Dreamt of it. Make believed it as a kid. But actually making it a reality has been a wild ride!
Back in May, 2023 was our first trip together. We weren't in our current camper, but his Arctic Fox that he had before we decided to upgrade. It was a trip to Wisconsin for a job he had. After two jobs apart, we decided I would just go with and make life easier on the both of us, because being apart for long periods of time is exhausting. For this trip, I had my own car since it was close to Minnesota, where we were living at the time. This gave me freedom to come and go as I please, run errands, make the 3 hour drive back home if I was homesick or needed to go to an appointment, etc. So let's just say it - I was spoiled for my first trip. We spent 65 days in Wisconsin together. The camper was crowded with us and our two dogs, but we made it work.
After that, we started talking about being on the road full time, but only lightly. We went all in and got a new camper, Momentum 349m. It's the perfect size for our little family, we converted the garage into an office for me to work from the camper, and TJ made some adjustments that we will go over in another post.

After we got the camper, we went on a week long trip to Duluth, MN to test it out. The trip was great, we found some bugs we needed to work out with the camper, and I got to test out my office. When we got home was the kicker... We came home to a broken sliding glass door. No one broke in, nothing was missing. But the inside pane had shattered. That was it. TJ looked at me after dealing with insurance for 3 days and said, "Should we just do this now?" talking about moving into the camper. I said yes, and the process started. We moved our life in 3 weeks. Sold most of our stuff, put some into storage, and decluttered ALOT!
TJ has been on the road longer than I have, traveled more places and seen more things. Working on the road has him all over the place. I'm not saying that made it easy for him to up and move his entire life into a camper, but he does have more experience with it to some extent. So he was a huge help for me as I navigated packing up, adjusting to the thought of being away from my family, and accepting all the little things I would need to give up to make this work. In all honesty - it wasn't much of a sacrifice at all, because this is the sort of thing I always wanted to do. Now I get to do it with someone I hate the thought of being away from.
All in all, making the decision to move into the camper full time was an easy one. The process was exhausting, but well worth it.
